Terms & Conditions

Work = Pay

Contrary to popular belief, starving artists don’t actually wish to starve. Ergo, we do not work for free. We expect payment upon receipt of invoice.  We may require a down payment, which we will waive if we feel like it, or if we’ve worked with you before.

Copyrights are a funny thing—we own the copyright to all written material and designs until we actually sell it to the client.  Which means, of course, we have to be paid before the copyright on the material is fully released.

“You Suck”

What happens if you don’t like the result?  Do you still have to pay us?  Well, yes and no.  First, any retainer paid is non-refundable.  The retainer covers our initial time in the researching or reviewing necessary for each project start-up.  Beyond that, we work hard to make sure our clients are happy with our work every step of the way. We wouldn’t have much of a reputation if we let our clients walk away unhappy. So the first step is simply to tell us you don’t like it. Since we send samples of the work long before it’s finished, you’ll know right away if we are on the right track. If not, if you’ve envisioned something different, just let us know and we will do our best to change it. It’s as simple as that. If we really can’t work things out, then yes, we will give you your money back for all but the initial retainer; but keep in mind we will continue to own the copyright on any material produced. If you try to be a cheap skate and use our drafts, we will hunt you down and shake our fingers at you. In addition, we will ask Santa to put you on his Naughty List until you ‘fess up.

Keeping Secrets

What about confidentiality?  We maintain the strictest confidentiality. We do not use any of our clients’ work without permission, which we rarely ask for.  There are a few times when we have asked for that permission. We may also ask you to be a featured author in our Author’s Spotlight, request permission to do an interview for our site, or otherwise promote your new novel if you’ve achieved all the elements necessary for us to promote your work. You do not need to be a CanAm client to be a featured author or receive promotion by us – we are happy to promote ALL great Indie Authors.

Payment Options

We accept payments through PayPal. That is the quickest way for you to get us started on projects. We get this cool little instant notification that your payment has been received and we can get out the pen and paper right away and get started. For those of you who are still phobic about online payment methods (which we can actually understand), snail mail is still an acceptable method.  We accept personal checks, money orders, cashier’s checks, pieces of gold, diamonds, Google or Microsoft stocks and the like. We no longer accept first-born children, as we have passed the age where we are capable of keeping up with the ones we have. So, you’re on your own there.

If you have any other questions we have not addressed, feel free to e-mail us, or even pick up the phone and call. Our information is on the Contact page and we actually answer our own phones without making you go through hoops to speak to a live flesh-and-blood human being. If Darcie’s husband answers, we apologize in advance.
